The CCAA is committed to maintaining the highest standard of research and training excellence. It is because of this commitment to quality that the CCAA’s educational and leadership training courses and workshops have been recognized both nationally and internationally for over 20 years.

It is not enough, however, for the CCAA to develop and deliver internationally recognized training programs. It is equally important for this research centre to ensure that CCAA trained leaders continue to deliver the highest quality of programming to seniors in their communities. The CCAA uses the SFIC certification and renewal processes to ensure that instructors start out as qualified professionals, and then continue to meet specific standards and follow the best practices defined by experts in this field.

This commitment not only protects and enhances the reputation of the CCAA and its programs; it also increases the credibility of fitness leaders and healthcare professionals trained through the CCAA.

There is a lack of licensure that would require a senior fitness instructor to be certified in order to teach senior fitness classes in any given community or facility. However the CCAA’s SFIC certification is quickly becoming a prerequisite for many employers and senior fitness class participants across Canada. By committing to becoming certified and maintaining certifications, senior fitness instructors are pledging to maintain and raise the standards of skills and knowledge within the health and fitness industry. These instructors are also exhibiting true professionalism, a commitment to safety and credibility to the public.

Other benefits to senior fitness certification through the CCAA:

  • Official designation after name (CCAA-SFIC) with support of CCAA
  • Increased marketability through CCAA promotions and new website
  • Access to insurance coverage
  • Regular E-newsletters
  • Access to current and reliable research
