Certification
The reputation of any educational program depends on the importance that is placed on maintaining standards of excellence. It is because of the attention the CCAA gives to quality and accountability that its programs are so highly recognized. In order to maintain this credibility and that of our certified leaders we must have a system in place to ensure that specific standards of best practices continue to be met. This not only protects and enhances the reputation of CCAA programs, but also the reputation and credibility of fitness leaders and healthcare professionals, and provides further protection relative to insurance coverage. For the SFIC, the bi-annual re-certification process involves maintaining a minimum number of practical hours, observing and learning from other instructors, attending a refresher workshop and maintaining current CPR.
Although there is no law that states an instructor must be certified in order to teach, it is quickly becoming a prerequisite and there are many benefits to obtaining certification status. One benefit that affects all of us is maintaining and raising the standards within our industry to represent a message of professionalism, safety and credibility to the public. Other benefits include:
- Official designation after name (CCAA-SFIC) with backing and support of CCAA
- Increased marketability through CCAA promotions and new website
- Access to insurance coverage
- E-newsletters and research updates
